The Carolina Hurricanes signed a pair of first-round picks to entry-level contracts on Saturday, coming to terms with forward Julien Gauthier and defenceman Jake Bean.
The deals are identical for the two players, paying them each $832,500 at the NHL level and $70,000 at the AHL level. The contracts also include a $277,500 signing bonus.
Bean was taken with the 13th pick in the 2016 NHL Draft. He led the Western Hockey League in goals by a defenceman with 24 and added 40 assists in 68 games with the Calgary Hitmen.
Gauthier was taken 21st overall after scoring an impressive 41 goals in 54 games with the Val d’Or Foreurs of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.
