The Carolina Hurricanes have signed defenceman Jesper Sellgren to a three-year, entry-level contract.
The contract pays Sellgren $700,000 at the NHL level in the first two seasons and $750,000 in the final year. He is currently playing with the Charlotte Checkers in the AHL Final on a professional try-out agreement.
“Jesper is a solid, two-way defenceman who played for one of the top teams in Sweden in 2018-19,” said Hurricanes GM Don Waddell in a statement. “We’re looking forward to him taking the next steps in his development.”
Sellgren, 20, was a sixth-round pick by the Hurricanes in 2018. He had three goals and 15 points with Lulea HF in the Swedish Hockey League this season.
