The Carolina Hurricanes have announced the signing of forward Derek Ryan to a one-year, $1.425-million contract for the upcoming season.
Ryan, 30, had career highs with 11 goals, 18 assists and 29 points. He was tied for fourth on the Hurricanes with four power-play goals and was the team’s choice for the Bill Masterton Trophy.
“Derek proved he belonged in the NHL last season,” said Hurricanes GM Ron Francis in a statement. “He brings skill and versatility to our lineup and sets an example for our younger players with his character and determination off the ice.”
Ryan originally signed with the Hurricanes as a free agent in June 2015 after earning MVP honours in the Swedish Hockey League.
