Islanders’ Johnny Boychuk skates one week after needing 90 stitches

A scary moment as Johnny Boychuk takes Artturi Lehkonen's skate up high, he immediately gets off the ice to get the situation checked out.

New York Islanders defenceman Johnny Boychuk was back practising Monday just one week after needing 90 stitches to repair a cut above his eye.

The 36-year-old was cut by the skate of Montreal Canadiens forward Artturi Lehkonen — as Lehkonen fell to the ice — during a game last Tuesday in New York.

Boychuk was on the ice in Vancouver shortly after his teammates finished their session at Rogers Arena, where they will play on Tuesday night.

New York says there’s no timetable for his return to regular practice or games.

He has two goals and nine assists in 64 games this season.
