Islanders not loaning Noah Dobson to Canada for world juniors

The New York Islanders will not loan defenceman Noah Dobson to Canada for the upcoming World Junior Hockey Championship, general manager Lou Lamoriello told reporters Tuesday.

Dobson, 19, has been in and out of the Islanders’ lineup all season, his first in the NHL. He has two assists in 10 games and is a plus-4.

A first-round pick in 2018, Dobson had one goal in five games for Canada at last years tournament.

The Islanders did loan forward Oliver Wahlstrom, who has spent most of the season with AHL Bridgeport, to the United States for the tournament.

Forwards Joe Veleno from AHL Grand Rapids and Barrett Hayton from the Arizona Coyotes have been loaned to Canada from their pro teams for the tournament.
