After losing 3-1 to the Niagara IceDogs on Wednesday night, the OHL’s Kingston Frontenacs were eliminated from the playoffs. As a result, the New York Islanders promoted highly touted prospect Michael Dal Colle to their AHL team in Bridgeport.
Dal Colle, selected fifth overall in 2014, scored 80 points in 60 OHL games this season split between Kingston and Oshawa. He scored at least 30 goals in each of the past three seasons.
While Dal Colle will join the Sound Tigers as they look to clinch a playoff spot, the Islanders are in Florida to take on the Panthers in Game 1 of their first round series. While it appears unlikely Dal Colle would join the Islanders on the road, Sportsnet’s Damien Cox reported on Saturday night’s Headlines segment, that the injury-depleted NHL team could call up their prized prospect.
