Islanders recall Adam Pelech from Bridgeport, activate off IR

Watch as New York Islanders defenceman Adam Pelech takes New York Rangers forward Derek Stepan’s skate blade in the face.

The New York Islanders have recalled Adam Pelech from AHL Bridgeport and have activated the defenceman off of injured reserve.

Pelech has missed the past 36 games with what was thought to have been a season-ending injury after taking a skate to the face in a Jan. 14 game against the New York Rangers.

He was sent down to Bridgeport for a conditioning stint on Monday, and now appears ready to play in the Islanders’ final two games of the regular season.

The 21-year-old has played in seven career NHL games, all coming this season, notching two assists.

The Islanders have also recalled a pair of forwards, Alan Quine and Bracken Kearns on an emergency basis. The two were leading Bridgeport in scoring this season, with Quine scoring 48 points in 56 games and Kearns totalling 52 points in 70 games.

Quine, 23, was drafted in the sixth round of the 2013 NHL Draft and has yet to make his NHL debut.

Kearns, 34, has three goals and two assists in 31 career NHL games.
