Jackets’ Comeau gets two games for boarding

NEW YORK — The NHL has suspended Columbus Blue Jackets forward Blake Comeau for two games for hitting Detroit defenceman Brendan Smith from behind.

The incident took place at 12:47 of the first period of The Blue Jackets’ 4-3 win over the Red Wings in Columbus on Tuesday. Comeau hit Smith into the boards as the defenceman skated into the Detroit zone to retrieve a loose puck in the corner.

Comeau was assessed a minor penalty for boarding on the play.

Comeau will forfeit US$10,256.42 in salary. He is eligible to return when Columbus hosts Carolina on Tuesday.
