Former NHL defenceman James Wisniewski has signed a standard player contract with the AHL’s Chicago Wolves.
Wisniewski, 32, started the 2016-17 season in the KHL’s Admiral Vladivostok. He was bought out by the Carolina Hurricanes last summer after appearing in just one game in the 2015-16 season due to a torn ACL.
“We are excited to have James as part of the Wolves organization,” Chicago Wolves general manager Wendell Young said in a press release. “He brings a wealth of experience and skill to our team. He will be a great enhancement for an already outstanding group.”
Wisniewski has appeared in 552 NHL games since the 2006-07 season, split between the Chicago Blackhawks, Montreal Canadiens, Anaheim Ducks, New York Islanders and Columbus Blue Jackets. He has picked up 53 goals and 221 assists in the NHL, along with 459 penalty minutes.
The Wolves are the AHL affiliate for the St. Louis Blues, but Wisniewski’s contract is an AHL-only deal.
