TORONTO — Cam Janssen’s Winter Olympics hockey break has been extended five NHL games.
The St. Louis Blues forward was suspended Thursday for five games, without pay, as a result of a late hit to the head on Washington Capitals winger Matt Bradley.
The incident occurred in the first period of 4-3 Blues win on Feb. 13 in St. Louis. Janssen drew a five-minute interference call, resulting in a game misconduct, after his blindside check led to a fight with Quintin Laing. Bradley favoured his left leg leaving the ice and did not return.
Janssen will forfeit US$14,248 per game. He’ll be eligible to return on March 14 at Minnesota.
