Should Jared Boll be suspended for late hit on Bellemare?

Blue Jackets Jared Boll and Oilers Patrick Maroon square off, throwing heavy shots.

Early in the second period of the Blue Jackets-Flyers contest, forward Jared Boll was thrown out for an interference major delivered on Flyers forward Pierre-Edouard Bellemare.

Bellemare was breaking out of his own zone when he chipped the puck up to a teammate. Boll ran through Bellemare just after the puck was released — the question is did the hit come too late?

A melee ensued after Radko Gudas grabbed Boll and began exchanging punches.

Head coach John Tortorella was not pleased with the call on the ice, and expressed those sentiments clearly following the game.

Boll has been suspended before for offences such as illegal check to the head and instigating a fight.

While the hit was certainly severe, it did not appear to come unreasonably late.

Should Boll be suspended?
