Representing one’s country on Olympic ice is every hockey player’s dream, right?

Not necessarily.

Winnipeg defenceman and Sweden native Tobias Enstrom told Par Marts, the head coach of Team Sweden, that he will not be skating in Sochi come February.

“He called the other day and told me,” Marts, who was surprised by Enstrom’s decision, told Swedish paper Aftonbladet on Wednesday. “He wanted to put all his time and energy in with his [NHL] club is how he put it.”

After failing to be named to Sweden’s preliminary Olympic roster, the 28-year-old Enstrom was later invited to the national camp.

Enstrom has one goal, six assists and 14 penalty minutes through 14 games for the Jets this season. He is a plus-2 player on a Winnipeg team that has a minus-6 goal differential.
