Jets’ Enstrom out for Game 1 vs. Wild; Trouba returns from ankle injury

Before they took the ice the Winnipeg Jets and the Chicago Blackhawks held a moment of silence for those touched by the Humboldt Broncos tragedy.

The Winnipeg Jets will be without defenceman Tobias Enstrom for Game 1 of their opening-round Stanley Cup Playoffs series against the Minnesota Wild.

“We want to give him as much time as we can go get right,” Jets head coach Paul Maurice told reporters in Winnipeg Monday following his team’s short practice. “He’s not far off but he won’t go.”

Enstrom hasn’t suited up since suffering a lower-body injury in a March 23 game against the Anaheim Ducks. At the time, the team did not think the injury was significant.

Game 1 takes place Wednesday night at Bell MTS Place and there is no guarantee at this time that Enstrom will be ready for Game 2 on Friday either.

Matt Hendricks will also be missing in action for Game 1. The forward is still recovering from a lower-body injury that caused him to miss the final 12 games of the regular season.

The Jets did receive some good news, though, as Jacob Trouba practised alongside Josh Morrissey and will be available for Game 1, Maurice said. Trouba missed the regular-season finale with an ankle injury. Dustin Byfuglien and Joe Morrow were paired up, as were Ben Chiarot and Tyler Myers on Winnipeg’s back end.
