Jets home betting favourite in Game 4, seeking 3-1 series lead

Elliotte Friedman joins Tim and Sid to talk about Tom Wilson’s play against the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Winnipeg Jets using their home crowd to rally and beat the Nashville Predators.

The Winnipeg Jets can take a commanding 3-1 lead in their second-round playoff series with Nashville on Thursday when they take on the visiting Predators in Game 4 as -140 favourites on the NHL odds at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.

After falling behind 3-0 in the first 20 minutes of Game 3 on Tuesday, Winnipeg stormed back to claim a 7-4 victory as a -143 bet. That extended their current winning streak on home ice to 13 games going into Thursday night’s Predators versus Jets betting matchup at MTS Centre.

The Jets have been dominant during their current hot streak at home, averaging 4.15 goals per game while holding opponents to two or fewer markers on nine occasions. That has produced uneven results in totals betting, with the OVER prevailing in just six of those 13 outings.

Recent clashes between the Jets and Predators have tended to be high-scoring affairs however, with the two clubs combining to score eight or more goals in seven of their past 10 meetings. The Jets earned the win in just three of those seven free-wheeling contests with Nashville, and are just 3-3-0 in their past six overall contests featuring six or more total goals.

However, Winnipeg has claimed a victory in four of five home dates with the Predators despite surrendering 4.66 goals per game in their past three.

With the Jets now poised to push the Predators to the brink of elimination, the odds of the club advancing to the Western Conference final for the first time in franchise history have soared. Winnipeg now sits as a -230 favourite on the NHL playoff series prices, well ahead of the +120 odds the team sported ahead of Game 1, and is now listed as a +450 wager on the Stanley Cup odds.

Conversely, the Predators find themselves in a near must-win situation following Tuesday’s defeat as +129 underdogs. With the loss, Nashville has now failed to tally consecutive wins since the first two games of its opening-round series with the Colorado Avalanche, extending a stretch of inconsistency that has seen the team go 10-8-1 in its past 19 outings.

Road struggles during the playoffs are also nothing new for the Predators. Nashville is just 4-8 in its past 12 post-season road dates, and has never won a Game 4 matchup on the road while trailing a series 2-1. However, the Predators remained buoyed at +635 on the Stanley Cup odds after entering the postseason as +375 favourites.
