Jets’ Lemieux to have hearing for hit on Panthers’ Trocheck

Watch as Brendan Lemieux tags Vincent Trocheck with a blatant head shot, forcing him to drop the gloves against Mackenzie Weegar.

Winnipeg Jets forward Brendan Lemieux connected on an illegal hit to the head of Florida Panthers centre Vincent Trocheck and it could result in supplemental discipline.

The NHL’s department of player safety announced Saturday that Lemieux will have a hearing with the league in the near future. On Sunday the NHL confirmed Lemieux’s hearing will be on Monday afternoon.

As you can see from the video at the top of the page, Lemieux clipped Trocheck with a glancing headshot in the neutral zone and knew immediately he’d be in trouble for the hit.

Trocheck was shaken up on the play but managed to stay in the game.

The 22-year-old son of former NHLer Claude Lemieux was assessed a match penalty and received an additional five minutes for dropping the gloves with MacKenzie Weegar, who came to the defence of Trocheck.

The Jets and Panthers split their two-game series, which took place at Hartwall Arena in Helsinki, Finland.
