Well, that was ugly.
Devan Dubnyk was mercifully pulled from the Minnesota Wild net less than 12 minutes into the opening period of Friday’s Game 5 contest against the Winnipeg Jets.
The Wild were a disaster from the opening faceoff as the Jets carried the play with ease and put four pucks by Dubnyk on their first 10 shots, which you can watch in the video at the top of the page.
Jacob Trouba opened the scoring 31 seconds into the game before Bryan Little, who was bumped up from the Jets’ third to the second line to replace a scratched Nikolaj Ehlers, made it 2-0 roughly five minutes later. Brandon Tanev and Joel Armia then scored 49 seconds apart midway through the opening frame and that’s when Wild head coach Bruce Boudreau made the call to pull Dubnyk.
Backup Alex Stalock relieved Dubnyk of his duties.
The Jets held a 3-1 series lead coming into the game and, barring an epic comeback from the Wild, it will result in Winnipeg’s first playoff series victory in franchise history.
