Jets’ Mark Scheifele out vs. Devils, considered day-to-day

Mark Scheifele gets taken down by Marc Staal and is later shown favoring his shoulder on the bench. He would later exit the game with an upper body injury.

Winnipeg Jets centre Mark Scheifele will not play Thursday against the New Jersey Devils and is considered day-to-day, according to head coach Paul Maurice.

Scheifele left Tuesday’s game against the New York Rangers in the second period after colliding with teammate Blake Wheeler and then later being taken down by Rangers defenceman Marc Staal.

The team called the ailment an upper-body injury.

Maurice also told reporters that goalie Steve Mason suffered a lower-body injury during practice on Thursday. Michael Hutchinson will be recalled on an emergency basis to back up Connor Hellebuyck against the Devils.

Mason recently returned to the Jets from an AHL conditioning stint after being out since mid-January with concussion-like symptoms.
