Blackhawks’ Toews done for regular season

Brooks Orpik drove Jonathan Toews into the boards with a legal hit, but the damage was done as Toews left the ice did not return to the game.

Chicago Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews will miss the remainder of the regular season with an upper-body injury, the team’s head coach Joel Quenneville announced Wednesday.

Toews was hammered by Pittsburgh Penguins defenceman Brooks Orpik in the second period of a 4-1 loss Sunday and was forced to leave the game.

In 76 games this season, Toews has 28 goals, 68 points, 34 penalty minutes and a plus-26 rating.

The Blackhawks will also be without Patrick Kane for their remaining six games of the regular season. The team has already clinched a playoff spot and will likely face the Colorado Avalanche in the first round.
