Mike Komisarek’s coaching career was short and sweet. The Canadiens’ defenceman was behind the bench in each of his teams past three games, all wins.
However Saturday against the New Jersey Devils, Doug Jarvis will regain his spot after mourning the loss of his father allowing Komisarek to focus on making a speedy recovery.
The Canadiens’ shutdown defenceman injured his shoulder in a fight with Milan Lucic last November 13th. Over the past two days Komisarek has skated in solitary.
“He’s still a long way” head coach Guy Carbonneau said. “Once he starts skating it’s just a question of regaining strength in the shoulder. It’ll be at least 10 days to two weeks but we expect him back before Christmas.”
In the meantime, Josh Gorges has filled the void on the blueline playing alongside Andrei Markov. The diminutive blueliner has made the most of his opportunity with one goal and two assists and a plus-7 ratio in 11 games.
