Kris Letang didn’t just score an insurance goal to help the Pittsburgh Penguins top the New York Rangers 3-1 Tuesday night, he also may have gotten himself suspended.
With Pittsburgh up 2-1 in the third period, Letang cleared a puck out of the corner behind his net and then swung his stick into the throat and face area of New York’s Viktor Stalberg.
It didn’t look good.
It’s hard to imagine what Letang might say in his defence. There was no penalty called on the play.
The defenceman scored an empty net goal with 13 seconds remaining in the third period to ensure a Penguins victory.
Letang has been suspended before for boarding Alex Burmistrov of the Winnipeg Jets. He sat for two games.
