Wild near the top of latest Stanley Cup odds

The New York Rangers are the odds-on favourite to win the Stanley Cup and the Chicago Blackhawks are favoured to come out of the West. No real surprises there considering the Rangers are one of the most consistent teams in the league and they just got Henrik Lundqvist back. Plus, the Blackhawks are proven post-season performers with Patrick Kane slowly nearing a return.

The team with the third-best odds, however, is the Minnesota Wild. And no, this is not an April Fools’ Day joke.

Oddsmakers have them listed at 8-1 favourites to win it all. Not bad considering the team was 18-19-5 on Jan. 14, which so happened to be the day before they acquired goalie Devan Dubnyk who has helped turn the season around with his stellar play. As we pointed out Tuesday, there are a number of additional reasons the Wild could make some noise in the playoffs.
