Leafs’ Auston Matthews participates in team practice

It's a good sign for Toronto Maple Leafs' fans, as Auston Matthews looks to be close to full strength in practice with his teammates.

Toronto Maple Leafs centre Auston Matthews is participating in a team practice for the first time since suffering an upper-body injury on Dec. 9.

Matthews collided with teammate Morgan Rielly in a win over the Pittsburgh Penguins and has missed Toronto’s last six games.

The Leafs have gone 2-4-0 in his absence and will visit the New York Rangers on Saturday.

The 20-year-old Matthews has 13 goals and 26 points in 26 games this season.

His linemates in practice were Zach Hyman and William Nylander.
