Leafs’ Panik leaves game after hit from Upshall

Richard Panik looked the worse for wear in the second period when a big mid-ice hit from Scottie Upshall sent him flying and then stumbling trying to get back to the bench.

Toronto Maple Leafs forward Richard Panik will not return to the game after taking a hit from Florida Panthers forward Scottie Upshall during Sunday’s contest.

Midway through the second period Upshall collided with Panik as both chased the puck in the neutral soon. The Leafs forward stumbled trying to get up, and looked extremely woozy before making his way to the Toronto bench. The trainers then took him into the dressing room for assessment.

After being claimed from the Lightning earlier in the season, the 23-year-old has been a nice addition to the depth of the Leafs forward group.

Panik has seven goals and an assist in 33 games with the Leafs this season, including a goal Sunday that opened the scoring for his club in the second period.
