Lehner leaves Sabres’ opener with lower-body injury

Robin Lehner's debut with the Buffalo Sabres against his former team was short-lived on Thursday as he came up lame after playing the puck behind the net and had to be helped off the ice.

This was not the start the Buffalo Sabres hoped for.

Goaltender Robin Lehner left the game in the second period with an apparent lower-body injury and did not return. He was replaced by Chad Johnson.

Lehner was circling back around to his net after handling the puck when he fell awkwardly, appearing to injury his leg or groin.

The 24-year-old left the contest behind one goal after allowing the Ottawa Senators’ Kyle Turris to score 30 seconds into the game. Turris later scored his second to make it 2-0.

Lehner was dealt to the Sabres from the Senators on June 26.
