Lightning goalie Ben Bishop day-to-day after Game 1 injury

Ben Bishop was stretchered off the ice in the first period after going down in agony clutching his left leg while moving around in front of his net.

Ben Bishop has been listed as day-to-day after suffering a lower body injury in Friday’s Game 1 against the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Tampa Bay Lightning head coach Jon Cooper updated the media on Saturday, saying the news was “much better” than expected, considering how the goaltender was stretchered off the ice Friday night.

“Everything has been really good so far on Ben,” Cooper told reporters. “Much better news than the scene we saw what happened when he was carted off.

“As far as playing status, I have no answer.”

Bishop fell awkwardly on his left leg in the first period of Game 1 and looked to be in intense pain as he immediately grabbed his knee.

Backup Andrei Vasilevskiy stepped in in relief, letting in just one goal to help Tampa to an early series lead with a 3-1 win.
