The Tampa Bay Lightning have signed Gemel Smith to a one-year, two-way contract, the team announced Monday.
The 25-year-old played in 17 games with the Dallas Stars and Boston Bruins last season, notching two goals and three points. He also recorded 40 points in 47 games with the AHL’s Providence Bruins.
Smith was claimed off waivers by the Bruins from the Stars in December.
The five-foot-11, 195-pound forward from Toronto was drafted by Dallas in the fourth round of the 2012 NHL Draft. He has suited up in 80 NHL games, mostly with the Stars, collecting 20 career points.
