Lightning’s Kucherov, Cirelli suffer lower-body injuries vs. Penguins

Nikita Kucherov would be in pain and leave the game after an awkward collision along the boards.

Tampa Bay Lightning forwards Nikita Kucherov and Anthony Cirelli suffered lower-body injuries and will not return to Tuesday’s game against the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Kucherov, last season’s Hart and Art Ross Trophy winner, didn’t come out for the third period after limping off with roughly a minute left in the second frame. He appeared to get hurt during a collision behind the net with the Penguins’ Jack Johnson.

The 26-year-old has 70 points in 56 games this season, and extended his point streak to 12 games with an assist on Mikhail Sergachev’s marker in the second.

Cirelli, meanwhile, blocked a shot late in the first period and went to the dressing room.

The 22-year-old has 39 points in 56 games this season.
