MacTavish exits bench, hands reins to Nelson

Edmonton’s general manager Craig MacTavish will remove himself from the Oilers bench and hand over control to interim head coach Todd Nelson.

After firing Dallas Eakins, Edmonton Oilers general manager Craig MacTavish took up the role of interim head coach always with the intention that Todd Nelson, head coach of the Oilers’ AHL affiliate would eventually take the helm.

On Tuesday, that moment arrived.

On Monday, the Oilers made some roster moves, including the acquisition of Derek Roy.

Edmonton lost all five games that MacTavish was on the bench for (one in overtime and another in a shootout).
