Hello everybody I just wanted to pop in with a few rumours and scuttlebutt on the Sunday of the Heritage Classic.
I spoke with Hockeycentral’s Nick Kypreos and Doug Maclean and they offered thoughts on the Oilers, Devils, Senators, and Stars.
Some of this has been tweeted by @realkyper and not much from the lagging @dougmaclean but this is intended to make sure you don’t miss what the panel is saying.
We’ll start with Sheldon Souray. Nick reported yesterday the Oilers put the defenceman on recallable waivers after watching the blue line feeding frenzy this week.
Kyper is hearing that behind the incredible run of success, the Devils are looking into a claim. However Devils GM Lou Lamerello says they have not and will not put a claim in for Souray.
Doug points out the Devils have a ways to go to make it to the playoffs and would need to win 18 of 23 for 90 points.
The question is, with the Thrashers and Hurricanes struggling will the number for 8th in East fall to 88?
Souray learns his fate noon ET on Monday.
Elsewhere, the Senators untouchables now include Alfresson, Karlsson, and Michalek. The Thrashers were watching Alex Kovalev, but their play lately may interfere with acquiring him.
After a shutout in his debut with the Sens, the agent for Craig Anderson may want to strike while the iron is hot. The two sides will chat this week, with Doug Maclean saying if a deal gets done it will be in the $3 million to $3.5 range.
Finally, Brad Richards continues to battle what is being reported as post-concussion symptoms. This really complicates Joe Nieuwendyk’s decision to keep or trade Richards.
With a contract not imminent and the Stars falling, how does Dallas keep Richards? The problem with dealing an injured player is the possibility of his value dropping. Of course Richards holds the hammer, he wants cash and he possesses a no trade clause.
Talk to you soon.
