Maple Leafs’ Kerfoot to have hearing for boarding Avalanche’s Johnson

Toronto Maple Leafs forward Alexander Kerfoot will have a hearing for his hit Saturday night on Colorado Avalanche defenceman Erik Johnson, the NHL’s Department of Player Safety announced.

The hit in question occurred late in the second period, when Kerfoot pursued a loose puck behind the Avalanche net and cross-checked Johnson from behind, sending him into the boards head first.

Kerfoot was assessed a minor-penalty on the incident for boarding. His hearing will take place on Monday.

The 25-year-old Kerfoot has five goals and three assists over 22 games in 2019-20, his first season in Toronto.
