The Toronto Maple Leafs have loaned forward Kenny Agostino and defenceman Timothy Liljegren to the AHL’s Toronto Marlies, the team announced Sunday.
Both players were called up ahead of Saturday’s game — a 5-4 overtime loss to the New York Rangers — but neither played in the game.
Agostino, 27, skated 63 games in the NHL last year between the Montreal Canadiens and New Jersey Devils. This season, he has not cracked the Maple Leafs’ lineup, but he has 26 points in 26 games for the Marlies.
Liljegren, 20, is in his third season and has yet to debut in the NHL. He is posting career-best numbers in the AHL, though, with 17 points in 27 games with the Marlies.
Signs point to Liljegren being on the cusp of playing in the NHL. He has been promoted to the NHL and returned to the minors twice now in a two-week span.
