Maple Leafs looking at NCAA defenceman Joseph Duszak

The Toronto Maple Leafs are turning to the NCAA to potentially boost their defencemen depth.

The team is scouting free agent Joseph Duszak, according to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman. Duszak is currently playing for the Mercyhurst University Lakers in Erie, Pa.

Duszak, 21, is a right-handed shooting blue-liner who led his team in scoring this season with 16 goals and 47 points. Never drafted, the Franklin Square, N.Y., native had 30 goals and 99 points in 101 games over three seasons with the Lakers.

Mercyhurst’s season ended on Saturday with a loss in a best-of-three series to Army in the Atlantic Hockey Tournament.
