The Toronto Maple Leafs will be looking to rebound from arguably their worst performance of the season when they host the Washington Capitals on Tuesday as -120 favourites on the NHL odds at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.

Toronto returns home after falling flat in a lopsided 5-2 defeat at the hands of the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday that leaves the club with just one win in four outings going into Tuesday night’s Capitals vs. Maple leafs betting matchup at Scotiabank Arena.

While the Maple Leafs have managed to win consecutive games just once since opening the season with back-to-back victories, they have enjoyed some recent modest success on home ice, picking up the win in three of their past four home contests. However, home wins over the surging Capitals have been scarce. The Maple Leafs have gone 2-5-0 in seven regular season dates with Washington on home ice since January 2015, potting two or fewer goals in five of those contests.

The Capitals arrive in Toronto as +100 underdogs after mounting a comeback in a 6-5 shootout win in Vancouver on Sunday afternoon. Washington’s rebound from a 5-1 deficit was powered by three third-period goals in a span of just 5:44, and marked the club’s fifth win in six outings. The Capitals offence has performed well during the current surge, averaging 4.66 goals per game, and fueling a steady 9-1 run for the UNDER in totals betting.

Elsewhere on the Tuesday odds at sports betting sites, the Calgary Flames look to bolster a dismal 2-4-1 road record as they continue a five-game trip in Carolina as +125 underdogs. As well, the Edmonton Oilers continue to search for answers to their recent scoring slump as they visit the Detroit Red Wings as -140 road chalk, while later on Tuesday the Winnipeg Jets kick off a three-game road swing through the Pacific Division in Anaheim as +100 underdogs.

The Flames fell short in Saturday’s Heritage Classic matchup with Winnipeg, falling 2-1 as -135 favourites, and have now scored just seven total goals over their past five road outings. The Hurricanes have cooled off since opening the season with five straight wins, losing four of their past six, but looked good in a 4-0 home victory over Chicago as a -200 bet on Saturday.

The Oilers are coming off their third defeat in four games, a 6-2 loss to the visiting Florida Panthers as a -105 wager on Sunday, and are also winless in three straight road outings. However, Edmonton has won three straight on the road against the freefalling Red Wings, according to the OddsShark NHL Database, who currently ride an eight-game losing streak.
