Maple Leafs promote Travis Dermott, demote Martin Marincin

Shawn McKenzie and Chris Johnston break down the Toronto Maple Leafs 3-2 shootout win over the San Jose Sharks Thursday.

The Toronto Maple Leafs have promoted defenceman Travis Dermott from the AHL’s Toronto Marlies, while demoting blueliner Martin Marincin. The team announced the move Friday.

Dermott has two goals and 17 points in 26 AHL games this season and was named to the league’s all-star game on Thursday. The 21-year-old was selected in the second round (34th overall) of the 2015 NHL Draft.

Marincin, 25, appeared in two games with the Maple Leafs after being called up from the Marlies on Dec. 17.

The Leafs host the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday.
