Maple Leafs re-call Leipsic, place Cowen and Leivo on IR

Jared-Cowen

Jared Cowen was placed on IR on Saturday.

The Toronto Maple Leafs made a handful of roster moves prior to Saturday’s game against the Vancouver Canucks.

The team recalled forwards Brendan Leipsic and Jeremy Morin from the AHL’s Toronto Marlies on an emergency basis. To make room on the roster, the Maple Leafs placed defenceman Jared Cowen and forward Josh Leivo on injured reserve.

Leipsic, 21, has 14 goals and 20 assists in 47 games with the Marlies this season. He was acquired by the organization last season in a deal that sent Cody Franson to the Nashville Predators and will make his NHL debut on Saturday night.

Morin, 24, was acquired by Toronto in early January in a trade with the Chicago Blackhawks. He has two goals and four assists in 11 games with the Marlies.
