Maple Leafs recall Brendan Leipsic from AHL on emergency basis

Matt Niskanen and the NHL's top power play unit cashed in yet again as the Washington Capitals outlasted the youthful Toronto Maple Leafs 3-2.

The Toronto Maple Leafs recalled forward Brendan Leipsic from the American Hockey League on an emergency basis Tuesday.

Leipsic, 21, has played in four games this season for the Maple Leafs, scoring once and adding an assist.

The Winnipeg native has played 50 games this year for Toronto’s AHL affiliate, the Toronto Marlies, and has 16 goals and 21 assists.

The Maple Leafs also announced on Twitter that winger Brad Boyes is out with an upper-body injury.

The Mississauga, Ont., native has seven goals and 14 assists in 50 games for the Leafs this season.
