Maple Leafs’ Rielly, Ceci return to ice for first time since injuries

HC analyst Chris Johnston discusses the news that Morgan Rielly and Cody Ceci are both back on the ice, which is a welcome sight for Maple Leafs and their fans.

Toronto Maple Leafs defencemen Morgan Rielly and Cody Ceci returned to the ice Monday for the first time since both suffered lower-body injuries.

Both players were on the ice with skating development consultant Barb Underhill along with fellow injured forward Ilya Mikheyev.

Rielly has been out since January with a fractured foot while Ceci was hurt earlier this month with an ankle injury.

The original prognosis had Rielly out of the lineup for eight weeks, although Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reported Saturday that he expects the 25-year-old back at some point in March. Ceci is also due to return at some point next month.

Rielly has three goals and 24 assists in 46 games this season for the Maple Leafs, while Ceci has one goal and seven assists in 54 games.

Defenceman Kevin Gravel was also recalled from the Toronto Marlies, the team announced. The 27-year-old has played in three games with the Leafs this season and has appeared in 15 games with the Marlies.
