Maple Leafs sign backup goalie Curtis McElhinney to two-year deal

Curtis McElhinney saved his best for last, robbing Sidney Crosby to keep the Maple Leafs on top.

The Toronto Maple Leafs re-signed backup netminder Curtis McElhinney to a two-year contract, the team announced Saturday.

McElhinney was claimed by the Maple Leafs in January after being waived by the Columbus Blue Jackets. The 34-year-old made 14 appearances for Toronto this past season, going 6-7-0 with a 2.85 goals-against average and a .914 save percentage. The Maple Leafs are the sixth team McElhinney has played for in his NHL career.

The team also re-signed Toronto Marlies goalie Garret Sparks to a two-year deal Saturday.
