The Toronto Maple Leafs have signed defenceman Kristians Rubins to a two-year entry level contract, the team announced Tuesday.

Rubins appeared in 47 games with the AHL’s Toronto Marlies during the 2019-20 season, where he recorded two goals and 14 points.

In 2018-19, the 22-year-old split his time between the Marlies, posting three assists in 15 games, and the ECHL’s Newfoundland Growlers, where he registered two goals and 18 points in 56 games.

Rubins also played in 17 playoff games with the Growlers and captured the Kelly Cup in the franchise’s first season.

The Riga, Latvia native joined the Maple Leafs organization after signing his ECHL contract in August 2018. He signed his first AHL contract in October 2018, then was re-signed by the club in July 2019.
