The Toronto Maple Leafs have signed goaltender Michal Neuvirth to a professional tryout contract, the team announced Tuesday.
Neuvirth played in only seven games with the Philadelphia Flyers last season because of injuries, posting a 1-4-1 record with a .859 save percentage and a 4.27 goals-against average.
In 257 career NHL games with the Washington Capitals, Buffalo Sabres, New York Islanders and Flyers, the 31-year-old has compiled a 105-93-26 record with a .910 save percentage and a 2.71 GAA. Neuvirth was selected in the second round (34th overall) of the 2006 NHL Draft.
After moving Garret Sparks to the Vegas Golden Knights, Neuvirth is expected to battle Michael Hutchinson for the backup goalie job behind Frederik Andersen heading into training camp.
