The Toronto Maple Leafs announced Friday the team signed forward Matt Read to a professional tryout contract.

The 33-year-old has only played 31 total NHL games over the past two seasons.

Read spent the 2018-19 season in the Minnesota Wild organization, but only saw 12 games with the big club.

In 61 AHL games with the Iowa Wild, the Ilderton, Ont., native had 16 goals and 37 points.

The right-shot winger is a two-time, 20-goal scorer that has 449 games and 188 points in his NHL career.

Prior to his one season with the Wild, Read had spent his entire NHL career in the Philadelphia Flyers organization.
