CALGARY — Marcus Johansson remained red-hot Sunday night by scoring two goals, including the game winner, as the Washington Capitals beat the Calgary Flames 3-1.

All the scoring came in the first period except for Johansson’s empty netter, with Washington scoring on two of its first four shots.

Johansson neatly steered in Alexander Ovechkin’s snap-pass to complete a slick passing sequence that began with Nicklas Backstrom at 7:14 while on a power play to make it 2-0.

Coming off a three-point night in Saturday’s 5-2 win in Vancouver, Johansson leads the team in scoring with nine points (five goals, four assists).

Brett Connolly opened the scoring for Washington (5-2-1) while Jay Beagle had two assists. The Capitals are 2-1-0 so far on a four-game road trip that wraps up Tuesday in Winnipeg.

Mikael Backlund scored his first of the season for Calgary (4-5-1). The Flames now depart on a four-game road trip that begins Tuesday night in Chicago.
