Carlton the Bear is known for having a friendly demeanour, but in the lead-up to Halloween the Toronto Maple Leafs mascot (or at least an inflatable version of him) was in a mischievous mood.

Taking a page out of Carolina Hurricanes captain Justin Williams’ playbook, Carlton played the role of prankster and scared several unsuspecting members of the Maple Leafs with a quality hidden-camera prank.

The team posted a video to its social media channels Wednesday for all to enjoy.

Mitch Marner yelled and jumped in the air and seemed rather amused by it all, Andreas Johnsson nearly dropped his phone, while Nazem Kadri said with a smile: “That’s not funny.”

The pièce de résistance, however, is the reaction from Auston Matthews, who literally screams and runs away. It’s a great reaction and one Matthews’s teammates probably won’t let him forget for quite a while.
