Former NHL defenceman Michael McBain is facing sexual assault charges for allegedly assaulting an underage girl.
According to a report by ABC Las Vegas affiliate KTNV
, McBain was arrested last month after the victim alerted her father to the incident.
The father confronted McBain, who eventually confessed. The alleged assault took place in 2008, and the victim is now 16 years old.
McBain met the victim when he began dating her mother. At the time, he was a member of the Las Vegas Wranglers hockey team. McBain would later become an assistant coach.
McBain turned himself in to the Clark County Detention Center on July 5, after returning from a stay with his brother in Oregon.
He is now facing 12 separate charges including sexual assault with a minor and lewdness with a minor.
McBain, a native of Kimberley, B.C., played a total of 64 games with the Tampa Bay Lightning in the 1997-98 and 1998-99 seasons.
