Florida Panthers forward Mike Hoffman took to Twitter on Tuesday to thank Ottawa Senators fans for their support during his nine years in the nation’s capital.
Hoffman was shipped off to Florida via the San Jose Sharks one week after the Ottawa Citizen reported that the wife of Senators captain Erik Karlsson had filed for an order of protection against Monika Caryk, Hoffman’s fiancée, on May 4.

The four-time 20-goal scorer was selected in the fifth-round of the 2009 NHL Draft by the Senators, and the Kitchener, Ont., native has grown into a top-line NHL talent since then.
“Words can’t describe how thankful I am for all your support during my 9 years with you,” reads Hoffman’s note. “You guys let me fulfill my dream as a kid of making the NHL.”
He also expressed his excitement at joining the Panthers, about whom he’s heard “nothing but excellent things about the organization, players, and staff.”
