New Jersey Devils to get angelic April Fools’ makeover

Jonathan Huberdeau scored twice, causing fans to throw rats on the ice, and the Florida Panthers beat the New Jersey Devils 3-2.

The New Jersey Devils plan to turn over a new leaf for the 2016-17 NHL season in true April Fools’ fashion.

The team announced Friday they would be changing their name from the Devils, which they’ve been known as since 1982, to the Angels.

They’ll exchange their red and black look for a more angelic white and gold, and they’re ditching the devil horns and tail for a pair of wings and a halo. How sweet.

According to a press release, the identity change is an effort to “focus on our organizations mission of creating a family-friendly environment, in our state and in our arena.”

It is not yet clear whether this change will answer their 2015-16 playoff prayers. They currently sit seven points back of a wildcard spot.

Obviously this is just a devilishly good April Fools’ prank, but we must to applaud the effort that went into this.

From securing a Twitter handle and creating an official website:

To getting players like Adam Henrique involved:

To getting a shoutout from their home arena:

We’re tipping our halo to this one.
