Aucoin waived by Leafs, picked up by Isles

The New York Islanders claimed centre Keith Aucoin off waivers from the Toronto Maple Leafs on Thursday.

Aucoin signed a two-way deal with the Leafs last July after spending the previous four seasons with the Washington Capitals and Hershey Bears.

This season, the 34-year-old has registered a team-leading 37 points in 34 games with the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League.

The Waltham, Ma., native is known as a solid two-way player and has spent the majority of his professional career in the AHL, but in 102 NHL games he has 11 goals and 37 points.

With the Leafs being deep at the centre position, Aucoin was not expected to crack the Leafs’ starting roster.
