NHL could announce full outdoor schedule Wednesday

Bill Daly of the NHL spoke at the press conference announcing the 2016 Heritage Classic between the Edmonton Oilers and Winnipeg Jets, citing their WHA origins and history as the driving force to their event.

According to Sportsnet’s John Shannon, the remainder of next year’s outdoor schedule could be released Wednesday at the earliest.

As per Shannon, the matchups could be as follows: Detroit Red Wings vs. Toronto Maple Leafs; Chicago Blackhawks vs. St. Louis Blues; Philadelphia Flyers vs. Pittsburgh Penguins.

The lineup will be in celebration of the league’s 100th anniversary and to mark the 50th anniversary of its first expansion.

These games are, of course, in addition to the 2016 Tim Hortons NHL Heritage Classic between the Winnipeg Jets and Edmonton Oilers, which is scheduled for Oct. 23.
