The NHL All-Star skills competition is all about showmanship. There is a line that cannot be crossed, apparently.

Calgary Flames rookie Johnny Gaudreau planned to set his stick on fire as part of Saturday night’s Breakaway Challenge. The NHL, unsurprisingly, did not want that to happen.

Safety concerns trump style, which is probably best for everyone.

Nobody wants Gaudreau to torch those slick mitts in his very first All-Star weekend appearance. Here’s to many more years of Gaudreau lighting up the skills competition.
