NHL official Rooney hit by puck, leaves game

Watch as referee Chris Rooney is injured after taking a dump in off the knee.

Chris Rooney can’t catch a break.

The veteran NHL official left Saturday’s game between the Colorado Avalanche and Columbus Blue Jackets after taking a puck in his left knee. He would not return.

Rooney went down earlier this season after he was hit in the hand following a clearing attempt by Boston Bruins defenceman Dougie Hamilton.

Rooney’s injury history doesn’t stop there, either. He suffered a broken fibula after tripping behind the net during a 2011 playoff game between the Washington Capitals and New York Rangers. Furthermore, Rooney was struck in the neck with a shot during a Dallas Stars and Avalanche game in 2013.

The Avalanche and Rooney don’t mix, apparently.

Poor Rooney, always in the wrong place at the wrong time. Or is it the right place at the wrong time? Just keep your head up and get out of the way.
